If I fail

Your wish is my command, little miss

One question I get asked a lot when I tell people I’m doing a Masters in Creative Writing is what happens if things don’t work out. Although it’s a difficult question and one I find hard to face at times, especially when I’m studying a course that’s so subjective in nature – it is a question that weighs on my mind every now and then.

With this in mind, I put to task my other skills and this weekend I found (surprisingly) that I’m quite adept at providing beauty services for infants. Intrigued by my black nail polish, lil Keira who’s 2 insisted on having her nails and toes painted. Now this is a serious request and required the most delicate attention to those ten little toes and fingers. We decided black would be too ‘alternative’ for her hence silver was the colour of choice.

I was half expecting lil miss K to be excitable (as you would, having your first ever manicure and pedicure) and I would have to steady my hand to keep up with those waving digits. But I was wrong, she sat still as anything – focused concentration on her face as she inspected my handy work.

Thankfully, I can say I had a happy customer and I’m sure the dancing and waving hands after was a testament to that. Too bad I didn’t get a tip though 😉
